How many farm porta potties does a Coachella Valley crew need?
A Coachella Valley farm needs one toilet and one handwashing facility for every 20 field workers under Cal/OSHA Title 8, section 3457. Facilities must be within a quarter-mile walk or 5 minutes. Where terrain makes that impossible, place them at the closest point a vehicle can reach.
| Field crew | Toilets | Hand washing | Distance limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–4 workers | 1 (all-gender) | 1 | ¼ mile or 5 min |
| 5–20 | 1 per sex | 1 | ¼ mile or 5 min |

| 41–60 | 3 per sex | 3 | ¼ mile or 5 min |

Which units work for date, citrus and vegetable crews?
Towable field trailers with toilets and a hand wash station work best for crews that move through date gardens, citrus groves or vegetable rows. Standard units with a separate station suit packing sheds and fixed staging areas. Weekly service is included, and harvest crews often add a second visit.

How does heat change field service?
Heat changes field service because tanks and sanitizer run down faster above 100°F. During summer harvest work, plan two services a week for crews of 15 or more. Keep units in shade where possible and keep the hand wash station filled with clean water every day.

Field sanitation questions
What does Cal/OSHA require for farm crews?
Cal/OSHA section 3457 requires one toilet and one handwashing facility for every 20 field workers. Both must be within a quarter-mile walk or 5 minutes, whichever is shorter. Employers must keep service records for two years.
Do you rent trailer-mounted units that move with the crew?
We rent towable field trailers that carry toilets and a hand washing station together. The crew boss can move the trailer as the crew works through a grove or field. Ask about availability when you call, because harvest months book early.
Can you service units on a ranch with no address?
We service ranch and field units from a dropped map pin or a ranch gate number. Leave the gate unlocked or give us the code. Tell us which field road the truck should use after rain.
Do you provide service records for inspections?
Every service visit is logged with the date and unit. We email a service log on request, which helps you meet the two-year recordkeeping rule in section 3457. Keep a copy with your heat illness and safety records.
Can you deliver to fields in Thermal, Mecca and Oasis?
We deliver field units throughout the east valley, including Thermal, Mecca, Oasis, Coachella and Indio. These are short runs from our Indio yard, so same-day delivery is usually possible when you call before noon.
