Long-term porta potty rentals from Zid Portable Services bill on a 28-day cycle that starts on delivery day. Event rentals use one flat event price instead. This guide shows how both work, with a worked example and a sample quote layout.
What is a 28-day billing cycle for a porta potty?
A 28-day billing cycle means a long-term porta potty rental is billed once every 28 days, starting on the delivery date. The 28-day cycle includes weekly servicing, so each cycle covers about 4 service visits. The same rate repeats every 28 days until the unit is picked up.
A 28-day cycle is not the same as a calendar month. A calendar month runs 28 to 31 days, so the bill date would drift. A fixed 28-day cycle keeps every cycle the same length and lines up with a weekly service route.
Because 28 days is 4 full weeks, a year holds 13 cycles, not 12. That matters if you budget a long build by the month. Plan for 13 cycles in a 12-month project.
28-day cycle vs calendar month: what is the difference?
A 28-day cycle bills every 4 weeks on the same weekday, while a calendar month bills on the same date. Over 12 months, a 28-day cycle produces 13 bills and a calendar month produces 12. Each 28-day bill covers exactly 4 weekly service visits.
| Feature | 28-day cycle | Calendar month |
|---|---|---|
| Length of each period | Always 28 days | 28 to 31 days |
| Bills in 12 months | 13 | 12 |
| Service visits per period | 4 weekly visits | 4 or 5, depending on the month |
| Bill date | Same weekday every 4 weeks | Same date each month |
| Starts on | Delivery day | Varies by company |
Zid Portable Services uses the 28-day cycle for construction and other long-term rentals. You can read the full policy on our rental terms page.
Why can 3 days cost the same as a full month?
A 3-day long-term rental costs the same as a 28-day rental. The minimum long-term charge is one full 28-day cycle. Most of the cost is the truck trips to deliver, service and pick up the unit, and those trips cost the same for 3 days or 28.
A short rental still needs a driver, a truck, fuel, a clean unit and a trip to dump the waste. Those costs do not shrink much when the rental gets shorter. That is why there is no daily rate on long-term rentals.
If you only need a unit for a weekend party or a one-day job, ask for event pricing instead. Event pricing is built for short use, as the next section explains.
How does event porta potty pricing work?
Event porta potty pricing is one flat price for a short rental, not a 28-day cycle. The event price covers drop-off before the event, the rental, and pickup after the event. Zid Portable Services drops event units before guests arrive and picks them up after, so early drop-off does not change the event price.
Event units arrive clean and stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. A one-day party does not need a weekly service visit. A multi-day event can add extra service visits between days, which show as their own line.

What does an itemized porta potty quote show?
An itemized porta potty quote shows 7 lines: the unit and rental period, delivery, pickup, included service, extra service, any same-day charge, and tax. An itemized quote lets you see the full cost before you book, so the total on your bill matches the total you were told.
| Quote line | What it covers | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Unit and rental period | Unit type, quantity, and either the event price or the 28-day rate | Every rental |
| Delivery | Trip to drop off and place the unit | Once, at the start |
| Pickup | Trip to pump the unit and haul it away | Once, at the end |
| Included service | Weekly pump, clean and restock | Every long-term cycle |
| Extra service | Added visits beyond weekly | Only if you ask for them |
| Same-day charge | Delivery on the day you call | Only for same-day orders |
| Tax | Sales tax where it applies | Shown as its own line |
Ask for every line in writing. If a quote only shows one unit price, ask what delivery, pickup and tax add. A real total is the only number worth comparing between companies.
Worked example: a 6-week home remodel
A 6-week home remodel uses 2 billing cycles, because 42 days is longer than one 28-day cycle. The first 28-day cycle includes delivery, and the second cycle repeats the base rate. A pickup before day 57 avoids a third cycle charge.
This example is hypothetical. A homeowner in Indio rents 1 standard porta potty for a kitchen remodel. Delivery is on a Monday, and the crew expects to finish in about 6 weeks.
| Day | What happens | Billing effect |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Unit delivered and placed | Cycle 1 billed: base rate plus delivery |
| Days 8, 15, 22 | Weekly service visits | Included in cycle 1 |
| Day 29 | Cycle 2 starts | Cycle 2 billed: base rate |
| Days 29 to 42 | Weekly service continues | Included in cycle 2 |
| Day 40 | Homeowner calls for pickup | No new charge |
| Day 42 | Unit pumped and picked up | Pickup line applies; billing stops |
Total for this job: 2 cycles, 1 delivery, 1 pickup, and tax. If the homeowner forgot to call and the unit sat until day 60, a third cycle would start on day 57. For homeowner projects, see our residential porta potty rental page.
How do you stop porta potty billing?
Porta potty billing stops when you call to schedule a pickup before the next 28-day cycle starts. Pickup is not automatic on long-term rentals, so the call is your job. Zid Portable Services takes pickup requests at (442) 383-2625, Monday through Saturday, 7am to 7pm.
- Find your cycle start date on your invoice.
- Call a few days before the next cycle begins.
- Give the site address and say where the unit is.
- Make sure the truck can reach the unit, and share any gate code.
- Unlock the unit if you put your own lock on it.
If the truck cannot reach the unit on pickup day, the pickup may slip. Keep the path clear of parked cars and stacked materials until the unit is gone.
How does billing work on construction jobs?
Construction porta potty billing uses the same 28-day cycle, with one charge per unit per cycle. A construction crew that adds a second unit mid-job starts that second unit's 28-day cycle on its own delivery day. Weekly service is included on every unit.
Many contractors keep the same unit for months. Others add units as the crew grows, then cut back near the end. Each unit tracks its own cycle, so ask us to line them up if you want one bill date.
